According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, evidence suggests cannabis uses can be traced for more than 5,000 years, being used extensively in Eastern Europe. A direct source of evidence includes traces of Δ6-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ6-THC) in ashes, and the timestamp coincides with cannabis first being used medicinally approximately 400 AD.
